PROVIDENT’S BANNER EFFORT IN JOURNAL SQUARE

Starting in April, residents and visitors will experience a new kind of welcome when they arrive in Jersey City’s historic Journal Square, thanks in part to The Provident Bank. The Bank recently contributed $10,000 to the Journal Square Restoration Corporation in support of a decorative light pole banner system. The 200 banners will adorn light poles in the city’s central business district.

“These banners will welcome the 40,000 commuters and employees who use Journal Square as a transportation center and work destination everyday,” said Don Smartt, district administrator for the Journal Square Restoration Corporation. “We are grateful for the contributions that The Provident Bank has made in support of our efforts.” The Journal Square Restoration Corporation is a private, not-for-profit corporation that formed in 1995 to represent business and commercial property owners and institutional interests in the district. Designated by Jersey City to operate the Journal Square Special Improvement District, the group actively advocates for a cleaner, safer district and works to attract new investments.

The Provident Bank is a proud supporter of the Journal Square Restoration Corporation. Previously, the Bank donated funds to purchase the city’s first set of banners, which were displayed on Journal Square’s light poles for five years. Additionally, Leonard G. Gleason, first vice president and associate general counsel for The Provident Bank, serves on the Journal Square Restoration Corporation Board of Trustees.

“Jersey City has been home to the Provident for 169 years and we are delighted to support the city in its efforts to revamp Journal Square,” said Paul M. Pantozzi, chairman and chief executive officer of The Provident Bank.
