Heard that buzz about Jersey City’s latest flea market? Don’t be shocked to learn it’s right here in Journal Square. Over the past few months the Journal Square SID has partnered with the team at Journal Squared and Marketplace JC to activate the beautiful new plaza at the site of the former Kiss N’ Ride at the East entrance to the PATH station.
This area was once an underused eyesore that’s potential went unnoticed for some time. Through the development of the first of three buildings at the Journal Square site, the Kiss N’ Ride was transformed into Magnolia Landing.
Partnership was crucial to the success of getting this market series off the ground. Journal Squared just began leasing in March and was looking for an opportunity to develop a community destination here in Journal Square. Marketplace JC was in the midst of looking for a new site for their typically Downtown Jersey City markets. We here at the Journal Square SID are constantly on the look for new partnerships and ways to create positive news and bring people into our community.
The stars aligned and although the team was on a tight schedule four markets have been pulled together to activate the space this summer with many more plans in the pipeline. Magnolia Landing will serve as the hosting site for many community gatherings and events in the future. As more public spaces come online over the next few years the SID will continue to work with community partners to develop more programming and active uses for these great spaces, as well as revitalizing some legacy spots throughout the Square.
Marketplace JC will have 3 more markets on Saturdays: August 5, August 19, & September 9 – 11:00 am – 4:00 pm
