Pretzels for many invoke memories of sport events, maybe they served them at your school cafeteria, or maybe now as an adult they’re your favorite go-to beer garden or pub snack. It’s only when you stop to think about pretzels that you realize how popular they’ve become. From pretzel buns or crazy combinations or at many bars as a light appetizer to go with your German beer.
It was only when we made our visit to My Pretzel that we learned that there are endless possibilities to what we thought was a simple snack. Owned by Nader Awad and his fiancée Anya, My Pretzels started churning out delicious treats October 3, 2013, after Nader decided to follow (slightly) in his father’s footsteps as a baker. Born and raised in Jersey City, Nader’s father was a baker for over 20 years and that is where Nader’s love of pretzels started.
After six months of trial and error on recipes, Nader, his father, and Anya struck gold with their base pretzel recipes and opened up shop. For the past 12 years Nader has owned Summit Parking, making his Sip Ave location for the new business ideal. This is a great place for Hudson County Community College students to grab a bite between class or on their way in for a night class (p.s. there’s a 5% discount with ID!!).
My Pretzel is professionally branded with close attention to detail, signifying the importance of quality in their product and brand. All of their ingredients are as fresh and of high quality as possible, with no pork on their menu. Interestingly enough the items that go fast are their sliders that are wrapped in a pretzel bun, seriously you need to check these out.
